One chocolate cake
Today I made a chocolate cake for Pa Mannings birthday! Yum. And for breakfast I made pancakes. I got flour everywhere oppps. We just got back from having Italian and me being the chocoholic pig that I am, couldn't not have cake....I feel positively full right now. Imagine the chocolate cake out of Matilda.

I have been told I need to update more so expect some very boring blogs every other day!

The weather has been strange over the last week. It rained non stop all weekend but was so humid at the same time. The last few days have been lovely though, I was worried I was going to get sun burnt on my lunch break today!

Work is still going good, I got paid again on Wednesday. Such a good feeling.

I met up with Frankie tonight and on Friday evening. She leaves for New Zealand in 3 weeks, I wish I could go too. I'll just have to wait a few more months.

Paul is moving into his new flat in the new in Randwick few weeks so I was a lil DIY helper over the weekend. Who thought I would be sugar soaping and sanding down walls whilst I was in Australia. I ended up sleeping at his sister Louise's flat on the Saturday night. Comfiest camp bed ever. We watched films and I fell asleep during Lord of the Rings - I need to watch the trilogy.

Michelle gives a lift with her to the station every morning but we have had a bit of an unsuccessful transport week. On Monday, floods and a car accident meant we missed our train so had to get the slow train to work. This train also got delayed meaning our usual 1 hour journey took 2 hours in the pouring rain, arghhh. On Tuesday, Michelle got a flat tyre on the way to station.

It was Louise's birthday on Wednesday so the Manning family and myself went to her flat for birthday celebrations.

Last night I went to see the Bag Raiders a the New South Wales University with Paul, Sarah (Paul's girlfriend) and Kelly (Paul's friend). We had to wait forever for them to come on but I really enjoyed the gig. You might have heard one of their songs in the UK;

I got paid on Wednesday, thank god! I had approx $3 in my account... Luckily I can dress quite casually for work so I don't have to spend money getting shirts and skirts. Work is going okay, the days go by quick. The 3 women I work with are lovely which always helps.

 Hyde Park - where I sit and eat my lunch most days. David Jones is the smaller building you can see and I work on the top floor.
The Ibis! They are literally everywhere

I saw in the paper today that Chris Lilley (Summer Heights High) is making a new programme called Angry Boys, can't wait. Here's the trailer;

For anyone that doesn't know who Chris Lilley is, go and watch Summer Heights High!

I've now finished and survived my first Aussie week of work (only 2 days worth but shh)! I'm actually working in the mens buying department, not sure how long for. The head offices are located above the shop floor. Yesterday I went clothes shopping and only ended up with 1 knit jumper - capsule wardrobe is the way forward (thanks for the advice Nic!). I get paid on Wednesday so I can go buy some more basics then.

It has been hot hot hot today in Sydney. My Sunday afternoon consisted of lazing in the hammock and going for brunch at Yum Cha. Yum Cha is gooooood.

My suburban life

I have fed grapes to a lizard

Watched the Possum eating nectarine in the back yard late at night

Had a road trip to Ikea and also drove through the Olympic village

Went to Thi Ch with Paul's mum

Started reading Bill Bryson - Down Under

Had a trip over to Manly for Sunday lunch with Sarah (Paul's girlfriend), Sarah's cousin and friend. We went to a place called Hugo's - expensive but yummy food. We got free calamari for waiting an hour to be seated.

I registered with a recruitment agency called Julia Ross on Friday. I found out on Tuesday that I now have a job starting Thursday with a company called David Jones! They are a big department store in Australia and I will be working in the merchendising department. My hourly rate is $24 which is 15 pounds in England!

I need to go work clothes shopping at the weekend. Thank god I will be getting paid next week. Now the hunt for a flat share begins...

Current location: Manning household in Engadine, Sydney.

The Manning's have very kindly put a roof over my head for a few weeks until I find a job and a place to stay. My bus left Noosa at 8am Tuesday and got me to Brisbane airport at 11am - let my 6 hour wait at the airport commence. The flight from Brisbane to Sydney only took about 1 and a half hours.

Today, Paul's Mum and Dad took me on a tour around Engadine and the surrounding area. It's actually quite chilly in Sydney today, brrr. This afternoon I have been job hunting, hopefully I will have some news for you in the next few days.
